Swa vana

Nestled in the serene foothills of Savandurga, Asia’s largest granite monolith, and just 60 kilometers from the bustle of Bangalore, Swa Vana is a forest stay where nature and human habitat harmoniously blend.

Swa Vana is an ongoing project of Swayyam and serves as a demonstration site for an agro-tourism model rooted in ecological regeneration and local livelihoods. The initiative works with local pastoralist communities while reclaiming abandoned farmlands through agroforestry systems.

In this region, average landholdings are 1–2 acres and largely rainfed. Much of the land now lies fallow—bare and exposed to the elements. Climate change–induced erratic weather patterns, rising fodder demand, high input costs, and increasing labour expenses have made conventional farming increasingly unviable.

Swa Vana explores perennial tree-based systems that restore degraded landscapes while providing food, fodder, and livelihood security.
